    • How does Hire42 work?

      Hire42 is a peer-to-peer equipment rental marketplace. Renters browse listings, select their dates, and pay securely online. Lenders confirm the rental, hand over the equipment, and get paid after the rental is complete.

    • Is it free to list equipment?

      Yes — listing your equipment on Hire42 is completely free. Renters pay a small platform fee when a rental is successfully completed.

    • How do I get paid as a lender?

      Payments are processed securely through Stripe. Once you complete identity verification and connect your bank account, funds from completed rentals are transferred directly to you.

    • Do I need to accept a rental agreement?

      Some lenders attach their own rental agreement to a listing. When one applies, you'll be asked to read and accept it before you pay — no payment is taken until you agree. As a lender you can write your own agreement (or start from our standard template) and reuse it across any of your listings.

    • What if the equipment is damaged?

      Lenders can require a refundable security bond on their listing. If the item is returned damaged, the lender can claim the bond (in full or in part) within the day after the rental ends. Any unclaimed portion is automatically returned to the renter.

    • What is the bond fee?

      When a bond applies, a small non-refundable bond fee of 2.65% of the bond amount (incl. GST) is charged at checkout. This covers Hire42's cost of holding and administering the bond and is retained regardless of outcome.

    • Can I cancel a rental?

      Yes. If a lender declines or cancels a confirmed rental, the renter receives a full refund. If the renter cancels, refund eligibility depends on how close to the rental start date the cancellation occurs.

    • How does Hire42 verify lenders?

      All lenders complete identity verification through Stripe before their listings go live. Lenders can verify as an individual or as a business, and must agree to our Lender's Declaration.

    • What equipment can I list?

      You can list almost any type of equipment — tools, trailers, vehicles, earthmoving machinery, concrete equipment, access equipment, and more. If it's useful and rentable, it belongs on Hire42.

    • Is my payment information secure?

      Yes. All payments are processed by Stripe, a global leader in secure payment infrastructure. Hire42 never stores your card details, and all transactions are encrypted end-to-end.

    • How do I leave a review?

      After each completed rental, both the renter and lender receive an email invitation to rate the experience. Ratings help build trust across the Hire42 community and improve future matches.
